Gregg Easterbrook has issued a clarification (Instapundit calls it an apology; it is not) on his screed against Jewish filmmakers. I don't find Easterbrook's explanation much more compelling than his original argument. If he "mangled" his words, and this is what his explanation boils down to, it's only that he was making a clumsy argument in the first place.

UPDATE: Easterbrook has been fired by ESPN. This is an overreaction, to say the least. Obviously, I didn't agree with either Easterbrook's original tirade or his explanation. But this certainly wasn't something for which he should be terminated. It's ESPN's loss, and ours too. I hope the New Republic doesn't act likewise.
