Went to see Master And Commander on Saturday night. Decent movie, but I recommend not seeing it from the first row. Much of the movie consists of very tight shots, which was unexpected of what was essentially an adventure movie at sea. The actions scenes were edited to emphasize the speed and ferocity of the battles (whether against nature or versus man) and from so close it turned into a blur. One notable thing. . .this is the neighborhood Loew's multiplex that I frequent most often. Before the film started, we were surprised by ushers taking orders (orders!) for candy, popcorn, soda, etc. A while later, another usher came by wheeling a cart bearing soda and water. I suspect they are trying in a small way to compete with the big stadium-style seating theaters that have been cropping up (albeit largely in suburban locales) where patrons can drink, order dinner, etc. For my part, they would do well without these niceties and just make the seats more comfortable.
