Monday, February 07, 2005 As of a week ago, the Illini men's basketball team was unanimously ranked #1 in the country in both the coaches' and sportwriters' polls. They have won against a number of ranked teams, including the former #1 Wake Forest, and are currently undefeated, at 23-0. Their RPI ranking last Monday?
This would put the #1 team somewhere around a low 2 seed. I'm starting to see why people complain about the RPI. UPDATE: As of today, (after beating #10-ranked Michigan State and slaughtering Indiana, the Illini surge ahead to the 4 spot in the RPI rankings, behind Kansas, Wake Forest, and Boston College. Whoo-hoo. posted by Max Power | 10:46 AMon this |
