The media certainly loves to take a catch-phrase and bludgeon it to death. Before the war, I would have thought that:

1. "Tommy Franks" was an adult film star
2. "Shock and Awe" was some sort of pro-wrestling Pay per View special
3. "Pockets of Resistance" were a feature on Sans-a-Belt slacks
4. "Tikrit" was related to Tex-Mex cooking
5. "Embedded" referred either to someone very sleepy, or perhaps an amorously-inclined couple
