Harold Henderson reports in the Chicago Reader that Illinois rep Jan Schakowsky is urging a non-Republican coalition to oust Bush in the next election:
Like it or not, either George W. Bush or the Democratic nominee, whoever he may be, will be our next president. . .We are going to have to dedicate ourselves to electing the Democrat. To do otherwise is a luxury we cannot afford. I look forward to our campaign for a universal health care plan or a real education bill or labor law reform. We cannot even have that conversation now.

First off...thank God we cannot have that conversation now. Let's never have that conversation.

Second, it is curious that a Democratic congresswoman would present her case for voting Democratic candidate as a fallback position. What is her primary goal? To elect Ralph Nader? Looking at her website, I wouldn't find this terribly surprising. She makes many other Democrats look downright conservative.

The most curious thing, though, is Henderson's title for the blurb: Strong medicine for greens and libertarians to swallow. Yes, I'm sure libertarians across the land are going to line up to vote Democratice at the urging of tax-happy Jan. That's rich.
