How To Win Friends

John Kerry on diplomatic relations.

So Kerry prattles on about his promise to gain "broad foreign support" (read: getting the Germans and French on board), then denigrates the efforts of one of the allies that has been with the US from the start. Does this make sense to anyone?

One wonders what sort of support Kerry would expect from our former European allies, given that they've already wavered between disinterest and opposition in the past. Both countries are ill-prepared to provide much of anything of any real material value, other than a symbolic ship and a few peacekeeping troops. Years of disassociating themselves from their own defense (and handing the responsibility over to the US), combined with a slow, perilous descent into welfare-state status have crippled both nations from retaining any serious status in the matter of self-defense. My only conclusion is that Kerry, as usual, has trotted out this inconsistency simply because it fits with his "I'm Exactly The Opposite Of Bush" platform.

He's Bizarro Bush!
