News from the front

A fellow I went to grade school with (insert dinosaur joke here) has been deployed to Iraq. Don't know much about specifics, but am copying a portion of his email here:

[I'm] doing pretty well. It is still hot here, every day is over 100 in the afternoon, it cools down to about 77 or so in the evening. It is very humid here. We are not really close to the flighting, however, Al Quieda has several active cells in this country and we always have our eyes open. It does seem to get monotonous staring into the desert for hours at a time, looking for any sign of movement, but we are getting by. I am supervising about 65 guys who defend this base on a twelve hour shift. In addition to Al Quieda, there are many foriegn countries intelligence services here, including several countries from around here that do not support our country's actions (Iran, China, North Korea, etc). Air bases are large targets, anyone with a mortar can set up outside the fence and start lobbing shells and evetually hit something. We work to try and keep that from happening, and so far, so good. So we always have an eye peeled. We have a lot of guns and a lot of ammo, fotunately we havent fired any shots in anger yet. I have some pictures but havent gotten them onto any media to e-mail them out yet, so maybe next time I'll get some pics out.

Interesting that Iran, China and North Korea have intelligence there. Don't know what to make of that.
